Home Our "self-help" programs
|
Generation Africa has also developed various "self-help" projects to help the most underprivileged. They provide educational facilities to teach skills to the local people who can then go back to their areas and start business or find a job. There are also a number of projects to teach them how to produce food. The benefits of these products help finance our humanitarian projects and education schemes.
This is absolutely unique in Africa | Agriculture
Dairy: our little unit has evolved over the years into an automated milking parlour as well as a dairy product factory. We use part of our production for our own needs and the rest to manufacture various products such as yogurts and dairy based fruit juice. These products, especially the yogurts, are sold throughout the KwaZulu-Natal Province, as well as to private hospitals, international airlines and a luxury shipping company. | | | Hothouses: plastic tunnels as well as 2 enormous glass houses, are used to produce specialised vegetables such as sweet pepers, tomatoes, spinach and flowers. A drip system is used to feed the plants with the required nutrients. A special computer system controls oxygen, carbon dioxide, temperature, etc. A special packaging shed, strictly inspected by sanitary services, is used to pack, label and price the products. More than a ton a week of sweet pepers is produced.
We also produce avocados and honey, we manufacture pasta and have a bakery. |

Mineral water | |
We are very thankful to have a mineral spring in our soil. It's the activity that finances the most our humanitarian and education projects.
Our water has been found to be of exceptional quality and purity. An international expert has stated that it ranks amongst the world's best. Of special note is the unusual purity of its unfiltered state and the unique quality of its mineral composition, very healthy. |

Pottery :
We use different pottery techniques and a variety of clays.
Some of the clays are bought elsewhere and most are found on site (including kaolin). We also have a cafetaria, a weaving workshop and a useful woodwork shop to help with the construction of our buildings, making our beds, etc. | |
